The story of this route
The word for cherry comes from ancient Kerasous on the Black Sea coast, today's Giresun. According to Pliny, it was the general Lucullus, back from his campaign in Pontus, who brought the cherry to Rome. Today Türkiye is the world's largest cherry producer, and we follow the story through the orchards all the way to Bursa.
We talk about a fruit tree's year from blossom to harvest: how bees, winter cold and rain shape the cherry. When we can, we stop to talk with growers.
